When Turner Construction needed selective demolition and asbestos abatement work done during the renovation of the historic Allen Theater in downtown Cleveland, they turned to Precision Environmental Company. Tom Einhouse, Director of Facilities and Construction for the Playhouse Square Center, said this about Precision's work:
"Precision did the demolition of the stagehouse, which was up against the historic interior of the Allen Theater," Einhouse said. "It was critical that the line between the stagehouse and auditorium be very clean. The new building was going right up against it. Precision actually took a diamond-blade chainsaw and cut all the way down the side and then demolished away from there. Turner Construction, our general contractor, was thrilled with them. They felt that Precision was the best choice in town.
"Precision could have caused us some big problems if they hadn't been so careful," Einhouse said. "They really listened to us when we talked about what was important to us. From our perspective, they were very professional right on down to the guys who shoveled the bricks. Across the board, it was a good experience.
"One of the things that makes Precision special is that they value relationships," Einhouse added. "There are a million companies out there that do that kind of work, but it's the ones that know how to handle people that are exceptional. To Precision, it's more than just knocking down buildings.
"Dedication to historic preservation was essential for Einhouse. "Doing this kind of work without inadvertently taking out something that is important is crucial," he said. "We've lost some very important architecture because the demo contractor didn't get it right. Having someone who clearly understands what they do is very important. I felt like Precision came to the table really knowing what they were doing."
