Precision Environmental sponsors Independence High School Seniors in the 2012 All-American Soap Box Derby Race and helps create racecar.
Precision Environmental is proud to sponsor Independence High School’s participation in the 2012 All-American Soap Box Derby (AASBD). As one of the local Independence company sponsors, Precision supports a senior class in building their racecar to participate in the derby this May.

Over the last few weeks, Precision has helped the senior technical education/shop class and teacher, Mike Foor, create the aesthetics of the car. The high school students built the body of the racecar following the derby regulations and drafted the artistic design for Precision to apply to the outside of the car.

Precision’s talented warehouse manager, Brian Berkey, created and applied the decals and paint with his graphic artist skills and the help of Neil Fazio, a vehicle/equipment painter, and Jeff Martin, Precision’s warehouse mechanic. Brian, Neil and Jeff followed the high school students’ design that included the Independence High School Blue Devils and Precision’s 25th year logo on the blue background.

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, three classes from Independence High School will compete against other participants in the Suburban Cleveland division at the Gravity Racing Challenge, located at Derby Downs, Akron, Ohio. The class Precision sponsored is racing in the Super Stock Race, and will begin at 11 a.m. that day. The winner of that race is the “Local Champion” and goes to the AASBD World Championship to race against the other “Local Champions”.

The annual AASBD is a youth racing program that started in 1934, and is a well-known Ohio family past-time, with many generations participating over the years. Derby car racing is also a DiGeronimo Family tradition that Precision continues through this sponsorship. Precision is an advocate for the Soap Box Derby’s goals, “to teach youngsters some of the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun.”

We wish the Independence High School Senior Class the best of luck at the races! – Precision Team

Project Update: Cleveland Casino

Project update on Precision Environmental and ProCut's progress on the Cleveland Casino project.
The Horseshoe Cleveland Casino construction has been developing quickly with several crews working simultaneously in the Higbee Building downtown, including our Precision Environmental and ProCut specialized teams.

Precision has made tremendous progress in the recent months and proved our professionals are essential in providing a variety of services to complete the challenging jobs efficiently and safely. The casino job has demanded the majority of Precision's major services thus far, including asbestos abatement, selective demolition, floor remediation, concrete removal and replacement and structural removal.

Precision is able to provide all specialized services and techniques and adapt to the casino's needs to perform the interior cleaning and demolition. For instance, as Precision's demolition team worked alongside the contractors installing the wall structures for the poker room and executive offices on the third floor, they could not use conventional machinery to remove debris. Instead, our crews utilized the Power Buggy to fit into the tight spaces and limit the noise and exhaust to remove the materials, without disturbing the nearby operations.

To date, Precision has removed eight stairwells, 10 escalators and all the windows within the basement and first four floors of the Higbee Building. The demolition team has gutted the interior floors and mechanical elements to facilitate further construction of the walls and additional stairwells. Precision ProCut has cut several openings in the concrete to place the new stairwells and pour the new concrete to form the new platforms and interior structures.

Precision's work is laying the foundation for four floors of the Phase 1 Casino and an additional floor for storage. The casino layout plan includes the basement as the buffets and upscale dining floor, the first floor for slot machines and games, and the second and third floors for poker rooms and executive offices.

Precision has completed a majority of the asbestos abatement services within the first few months of construction, however, they are performing ongoing abatement services as needed when they encounter more materials that may hinder demolition. In total, we have had at most 40 Precision professionals working at the casino jobsite at one time since the project began in January 2011. Currently, there are two shifts and 20 Precision crew members performing the interior demolition and cutting services.

The demolition team is expected to continue working until December 2011, under the $1,044,000.00 contract for Whiting Turner. The Cleveland Casino is a true testament to Precision’s unique capabilities to provide customized solutions and adjust to the projects’ needs. We will continue to support the Higbee Building transformation in the upcoming months, and look forward to experiencing the results of Precision’s hard work.

Great job to our project team for making it happen!

Precision provided abatement and demolition services to enable the transformation of the Cleveland Sight Center building for more space and accessibility.
Precision Environmental has recently contributed to the Cleveland Sight Center’s transformation project to improve the accessibility, enhance client wayfinding and provide more space for additional programs and services.

The Cleveland Sight Center building, located on East 101st Street in Cleveland, needed a complete renovation to better serve the visually impaired and blind residents of Northeast Ohio. The Sight Center has been in that location since the mid-1960s, as its third home since the organization was established in 1906.

The general contractor, Albert M. Higley Company, was hired to manage the overall $9.8 million renovation, which included major interior reconstruction and some exterior repairs. Starting in June 2011, they hired Precision Environmental as the subcontractor to perform asbestos abatement and selective demolition of the entire building. After abating, the building required all interior to be gutted and exterior reconstruction.

While approaching the end of the project, Precision finished the job within the budget of $357,000, and on time in a little less than three months. The entire project is expected to finish next year, when the transformed facility can better provide for nearly 10,000 clients in Northeast Ohio.

Precision ProCut performs disaster recovery services on the damaged Giant Eagle roof shortly after a tornado hit Chesterland, Ohio.
During the early morning hours of Thursday, August 25, 2011, Northeast Ohio endured a storm with heavy rain and wind that resulted in a tornado touching down in Chesterland, Ohio. The town suffered damage to many of its buildings and homes, including the Giant Eagle grocery store at the West Geauga Plaza that had its roof caved in, aluminum siding on the right side destroyed and a 5-foot clock tower blown off into another business’ parking lot.

The Giant Eagle needed the rooftop cupola and siding repaired as soon as possible to enable the store to regain power and open again. Precision ProCut received an emergency response call that day from general contracting company, FMS Construction, and traveled to the site immediately to assess the damage.

ProCut’s Project Manager, Matt Marcum, led the disaster recovery team to remove the 35-foot by 35-foot roof in one piece. ProCut was able to safely remove the damaged roof for the construction to begin on Giant Eagle’s new roof.

The Chesterland town and the safety first-responders, including the fire marshal, police and other local officials, all actively responded to the scene and observed ProCut remove the roof. They thanked the ProCut team for completing the tough job within a short time. The structural removal job was a unique challenge, but also a rewarding and noteworthy accomplishment for our ProCut team.

The Bromley Hall Renovation Project involves updating the student area plumbing and interior renovations, including: 128 dormitory rooms, 8,000 square feet of lounge area and 7,000 square feet of corridors.
